Dr. Matthias Rößler

Minister ret., President of the Parliament of the Free State of Saxony ret.

Dr. Matthias Rößler is a German politician, member of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). From 1990 until 2024 he was a Member of Parliament in the Free State of Saxony, always directly elected in his constituency, from 2004 for the constituency Meißen 4 (Coswig, Moritzburg, Radebeul). Between 1994 and 2002 he was Minister of Culture, between 2002 and 2004 Minister of Science and Art in the Free State of Saxony. From 2009 until 2024 he was President of the Parliament on the Free State of Saxony. Furthermore, Dr. Rößler is Board Member of the CDU in Saxony. In 2005, he was awarded the Saxon Constitutional Medal (Sächsische Verfassungsmedaille). 2011, Rößler founded the Forum Central Europa (Forum Mitteleuropa) to foster discourse in the region, he is also active in the Atlantik-Brücke. In 2017, he was awarded with the Officer´s Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit.
